The problem: roof water that wouldn’t drain away
A homeowner in Washington Township had water building up by the building. It wasn’t draining away the way it should.
What caused it: pipes sloped the wrong way
A previous contractor had installed the underground downspout pipes on a decline back toward the building. Instead of carrying roof water away, the pipes ran it back toward the structure.
How we fixed it
We installed a new underground downspout drainage system and re-ran the pipes with proper pitch, sloping away from the building.
The result
Problem solved. The downspout water now runs away from the building instead of back toward it.
Why downspout drains matter
Keeping roof water away from the foundation is one of the cheapest ways to protect a basement. Underground downspout drains only do that job if they slope away from the house. A pipe pitched the wrong way can bring the water right back.
